Modelo 790, código 012: the State fee, one step at a time
Pay the Modelo 790, código 012 before your appointment. You complete it on the Policía Nacional’s online office, mark the single casilla (box) that matches your procedure, then settle it over a bank counter or online and keep the proof in your folder. Spanish calls this State fee a tasa. The form shows the current amount; this site quotes none, as amounts are revised.
Request helpFinding the form
The form is on the Policía Nacional’s online office, sede.policia.gob.es. You complete it on screen. Then you either print it and pay at a bank, or pay online straight away.
What it asks
- Your surname and first name, as the passport writes them
- Your NIE if you have one; if not, your passport number
- An address, in Spain or abroad
- One ticked box, the casilla for your procedure
- The place and the date
Reading the boxes
Each box carries the Spanish name of a procedure. Look for the words that match yours: NIE for the number, certificado de registro for the green certificate, tarjeta for a TIE card, regreso for a return authorisation. Tick one box only. The amount that applies then appears on the form.
Paying
At a bank: print the form and take it to a bank that accepts State fees. Once it is paid, your copies come back stamped, and the stamp is your proof.
Online: the form offers electronic payment, which ends with a receipt to print. Either way, settle it before the appointment, not on the day.
Keeping the proof
Keep the stamped copies flat, in the folder with your form and your passport copy. At the desk, officers check that the name, the number and the ticked box match the procedure in front of them, and each person needs a payment of their own.
Questions
What does it cost?
The State sets the amount and revises it, so we do not quote one. Tick your box on the form and it appears.
Can I pay at the comisaría on the day?
No. The fee is settled beforehand, over a bank counter or online; at the desk you only show the proof.
We are a couple. Is one form enough?
No: one form per person, each paid separately, even when you sit side by side at the same desk.
I paid under the wrong box. Is the money lost?
Not necessarily, but the office may refuse it for your procedure. A new form under the right box usually saves the appointment; asking for the first payment back is a separate request to the administration.
