Questions

Questions from British and other non-EU residents

Since Brexit, British residents follow the rules for non-EU citizens, with their own path for those already living here. These are the questions we hear most.

The port of Torrevieja in low morning light, seen from above the sea: the Dique de Levante breakwater, armoured with pale concrete blocks and topped by a promenade, curving out to a small beacon tower at its tip; across the calm blue water lie the marina, the salt-loading quay with a moored cargo ship, and the town's apartment blocks along the shore

British, and living here since before 2021: which card should I hold?

A TIE marked as a Withdrawal Agreement card. If all you have is the old green certificate, swap it at a fingerprint appointment.

Huellas TIE Torrevieja: where are fingerprints taken?

At a police office of the province that offers the fingerprint procedure. policia.es lists non-EU residence at Calle Arquitecto Larramendi 3; your cita previa slip names the office for your booking.

I arrived from Ukraine. Which page applies to me?

That depends on your status: a visa, a protection status, a family link or another route, each with its own steps. Tell us which applies, and we will show you the page that fits.

Extranjería Torrevieja: who decides on a work permit?

The Oficina de Extranjería, which belongs to the Subdelegación del Gobierno in Alicante: Calle Ebanistería 4 y 6, Polígono de Babel. Information in person or by phone, 965 019 300, from 9:00 to 14:00.

My husband is Swedish and I am from Peru. Which card is mine?

The EX-19 card, for relatives of EU citizens. His own green certificate must come first, because your card rests on his registration.

My wife is Spanish. Which card do I apply for?

Not the EX-19 card. Families of Spanish citizens have had an authorisation of their own since 2025 (residencia temporal de familiar de ciudadano español); ask us where it is filed in the province of Alicante.

My card is being renewed and my mother is ill in Venezuela. Can I go?

Ask for the autorización de regreso, the return authorisation, before you leave. The Oficina de Extranjería in Alicante lists it.

Not sure where you fit?

Send a few lines: your passport, whether you live here or visit, and the dates that matter. Our answer, by email, names your procedure and your office.
